About the Chicago Area
We have chosen an outstanding venue for EPR 2007, and hope that you will make the most of your visit to Chicago by taking in the world-renowned shopping, dining, museums, architecture, theater, music, sports and more!
Attractions
The Hilton Suites Chicago/Magnificent Mile is located just one block east of the John Hancock Observatory (www.hancock-observatory.com, 875 N. Michigan Ave.) which anchors the north end of Chicago's Magnificent Mile. The Magnificent Mile is the (slightly longer than a mile) strech of Michigan Avenue between the Oak Street Beach and the Chicago River. One block south of the John Hancock Tower is the Water Tower Place (www.shopwatertower.com/), a shopping center with dozens of stores and restaurants.
The Museum of Contemporary Art (www.mcachicago.org/) is an easy walk south from the Hilton Suites Chicago/Magnificent Mile, at 220 East Chicago Ave, just off the Magnificent Mile. During the Conference, the MCA will be open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, and from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm the rest of the week. It is free on Tuesdays. Inside the museum is a Wolfgang Puck's restaurant, which will be open for lunch.
A bit further afield is Navy Pier (www.navypier.com/) is home to the Chicago Children's Museum, the Smith Museum of Stained Glass, the 150-foot Navy Pier Ferris Wheel, and several other attractions. There are also a few restaurants for lunch, and plenty of space to walk around and enjoy the fresh air of Lake Michigan. The quickest way to Navy Pier from the Conference is to take any of the buses southbound along Michigan Ave to Illinois, and transfer to the #29 or the #65.
The more adventureous might make it even farther south along Michigan Avenue to Chicago Cultural Center (www.cityofchicago.org/Tourism/CulturalCenter/), Millenium Park (www.millenniumpark.org/), and the Art Institute of Chicago (www.artic.edu/). To get to these, you will want to take a bus south along Michigan Ave.
Chicago is home to the world’s second tallest building, The Sears Tower (233 S. Wacker Dr.). For spectacular views of the city, visit the Skydeck Observatory on the 103rd floor (www.the-skydeck.com).
Space does not allow us to list the hundreds of things to do in Chicago...performing arts, sports, entertainment, night life, architecture tours, shopping, museums, etc., so be sure to check out Chicago’s Office of Tourism: www.cityofchicago.org/Tourism/ and Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau: www.choosechicago.com, and the Calendar of Events: www.choosechicago.com/happenings.html and www.meetinchicago.com/event_calendar.html
